I feel the National MS Society is the quintessential example of a non-profit organization. One of the recurring themes i have focused on throughout class is the aspect of non-profits delivering those without a 'voice' in society one. I commend your participation in events like this. I commented earlier that i hope to have be a better public patron and start volunteering! MS is one issue that deserves more attention and research dollars. Hopefully efforts will be extend through the work of organizations like this.

I have read several posts discussing what Obama and his new administration plans to do for the non-profit sector. After looking over his proposal i am confused as to what exactly this does for the non-profit sector. Although, i am optimistic that he will deliver some form of aide to the non-profits.

I saw no direct outline of what will be done to help specific areas struggling within the non-profits.

Just a clarification:

The Social Investment Seed Fund will most likely work to match government funds with private funds to then be used to invest in the nonprofit sector. Most likely it would be used to scale up (make bigger) nonprofits that are doing exceptional work in their field such as YouthBuild (http://www.youthbuild.org/site/c.htIRI3PIKoG/b.1223921/k.BD3C/Home.htm) or Teach for America (http://www.teachforamerica.org/), two of Obama's favorite programs.

From a right-leaning article: "The party promises to "support these results-oriented innovators" by creating an office to "coordinate government and nonprofit efforts" and then showering "a series of grants" on the chosen groups "to replicate these programs nationwide."" The article calls this a "taxpayer-backed pipeline to Democratic-partisan outfits masquerading as public-interest do-gooders." - http://www.nypost.com/seven/08202008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/a_soros_slush_fund_125233.htm?page=0

I am also interested in Obama's plans for the sector. I do think the Social Investment Fund Network is very interesting. I wonder using federal seed money for the private sector will bring the 2 sectors closer together. I also wonder if more responsibilities will be put on the civil sector as opposed to the government.

After looking briefly through the AKA press I found it very interesting the Eleanor Roosevelt was an honorary member of your sorority. I also thought it was encouraging that your sorority is so active in recognizing reputable work by giving out awards like Anna Eleanor Roosevelt Medallion of Honor. I also agree that although everyone is very excited and hopeful about President-elect Obama that we still need to remain active and aware of his policies to make sure that his they truly reflect what is best for America.

I had only heard of the Bradley Effect when I was watching the Daily Show the night of the elections. I thought it was just a joke until I googled it a moment ago. But I'm glad you voted for who you want to.

I felt the same way you did. I have never heard about the Bradley Effect but I know that when I went to vote on Tuesday, I was a little scared about voting for Obama. I'm not sure exactly why but I'm sure some of it had to do with always identifying myself more with the Republican party before this past year. I'm glad you actually made the effort to vote absentee and I'm extremely happy about the outcome of the election!

Good for you for voting! Its a little extra trouble to vote when your away from home but obviously it was well worth it. This election, there were more and more young people voting (and people who wouldn't normally vote in general) because of how important and impactful (word?) this election was. Whatever the reason, its great to hear about such a great voter turnout.

Your question sounds good to me. I think you can relate it easily to the readings. I have this impression and need to write about the organization's program or projects, but maybe I am wrong. Now I am starting to think that it might be better to write about the prganization's organization... if I can say that... :)

First, I want to say much love to the Hampton Roads area haha, I'm from Virginia Beach. But I'm glad you addressed the Bradley Effect, which goes a bit more in depth than what you mentioned, but personally I think it's a pseudo idea. Good to see that you actually took the extra step to fill out an absentee ballot. Hope you enjoyed the experience!
